File Preparation
Applications, File Formats and Media—We accept all popular software programs, file formats and portable storage media for both Macintosh and IBM platforms.

Document Set-up—Build your files at 100% of the final output size and include trim marks. For images that bleed, drag picture box outside document at least .125". Maximum printable image area (including bleeds and trim marks) varies with the imaging device and the media selected. Please create double page spreads as readers (NOT printers) spreads.

Fonts & Linked Files—Along with your document, be sure to send us all associated files and fonts (both screen and printer fonts). Fonts embedded in linked graphic files must also be included unless they have been converted to outlines.

We recommend using Postscript Type 1 fonts whenever possible. With Tru Type and unusual designer fonts, problems can arise at output.

Using the "Style menu" found in many layout programs can cause problems at output. For best results, use the actual, i.e. 'Helvetica Bold' or 'Garamond Italic' to create your document.

Note: If you changed fonts in your document at any time during production, check for stray fonts still included in the document and remove them. Frequently these unneccessary fonts remain applied to space or return characters, causing unexpected reflow.

Hard copies—Including a full-size hard copy laser of your files will help us verify that no problems have occured in transferring your data to our system. If the proof is not at final size, indicate the final trim size and the percentage that the document must be enlarged or reduced.

Scanned Images—we recommend using our scanned images for all projects. We've developed
specialized scanning set-ups that produce optimum results for each of our imaging devices and our presses. However, clients who choose to do their own image capture must take full responsibility for the quality of their scanned images.

In general, supplied images should be generated at twice the ppi (pixels per inch) as the lpi (lines per inch) of the final output. For example, images that will print at 175L should be scanned or created at 350ppi.

Placed Images/Graphics—Crop, scale and rotate images in a photo editing program such as Adobe Photoshop before importing them into your layout program. This will considerably reduce file processing time. If an image must be enlarged significantly, it is advisable to have the original art rescanned to maintain image quality.

Photo and Art scanning—If we are scanning your art please provide us either percentage of enlargment or hard copies of the pages for us to measure the percentage here. It is very important to have the image at the proper size before placing into your layout program. RIP systems see images that are enlarged in the layout program at a smaller dpi (low resolution). This can cause delays at the printer during pre-flight..
